Why did you choose the X-Pyr?

The Pyrenees are the massif where I have carried out most of my activities – crossing them flying from sea to sea would be a dream come true. It’s also a great opportunity to learn from the best pilots in the world!

What is your greatest sporting success?
Flying solo into the Baltoro glacier in Pakistan has been one of my most intense personal challenges.

When and why did you start paragliding?
I have always been very attached to the mountains and outdoor activities, starting to fly in 2015 was the natural evolution of mountaineering for me.

What is your mountaineering experience?
I was lucky enough to be part of the Young Alpinists team of the Basque Mountain Federation, and since then I have made several ascents, climbs, and ski mountaineering outings. Lately I’ve been focusing more on mountain flying than mountaineering. Skiing the north face of Mont Blanc, Chamonix-Zermat, La Meije, Matterhorn… I remember many activities fondly.

What are your best and worst sporting memories?
Best: to fly around Trango’s Nameless Tower this summer.

Worst: getting swept away in an avalanche in 2014.

Have you flown in the Pyrenees before? Do you have a favourite area?
Yes! I love flying in the Pyrenees! My favourite area is the one that I haven’t flown yet!

Is there anything you like to see (or not) in the route?
A beautiful cloud street towards the sea!

Apart from flying far and walking little, what will your strategy be during the race?
I will try to read the flight conditions and to choose the most appropriate route.

What does your typical training week consist of?
I usually train 6 days a week, and it depends a lot on the weather, but in general, I usually go out for 2 days of mountain biking, 2 of strength work and another two of walking and flying. Let’s see if the season starts as soon as possible so we can train a little in flight!

What has been the hardest part of your race preparation so far?
It has been hard for me to combine work, training, daily tasks, and social life… I am missing hours everywhere!

What excites you most about participating in the X-Pyr?
I think it’s a great adventure! An opportunity to see where my limits are and to learn from the best pilots in the world.

What worries you the most about the event?
The danger of making bad decisions and putting myself on risk, mostly with strong winds.

How do you know your assistant?
Felipe is a great friend, we have flown and traveled a lot together and we know each other well. I am sure that he will do his best to help me, it is in his genes.

What are your assistant’s main strengths?
Felipe is a very helpful, decisive and practical person, and if things go wrong I know he will be there to help me. He has participated in several editions of the X-Pyr as an assistant and knows the race well, I think that will help us.

What advice would you ask of the race veterans?
I would like to know how they recover from one day to the next.

Anything else you like to comment?
I would like to thank the organisation for giving me the opportunity to participate in this adventure.

Without them, the X-Pyr wouldn't exist.

    Our thanks to:
